Subtheming with Genesis, Gpanels and Firebug
Abstract:
This is a basic workshop aimed at newbie themers and those with experience who want to try out the Genesis starter theme and its fluid grid emulation with Gpanels.
If you have never themed Drupal before or only have limited experience this workshop will help you get a head start in Drupal theming.
Genesis has very flexible layout options including something called "Gpanels". In certain configurations Gpanels can emulate a fluid grids layout. Towards the end of the session I will give a demonstration on how this works and show you how to build complex grid like layouts by simply copy/pasting Gpanel code snippets.

- Brief overview of Genesis and its approach to theming Drupal
- How to set up a subtheme
- How the layout works and how to change it
- Using Firebug
- Build a grid like layout using Gpanels
Goals:
The goals of the workshop are:
- Set up a subtheme & get started theming Drupal!
- Learn how the Genesis theme works, in particular the layout & CSS.
- Learn how to prototype styles with Firebug.
- Learn how to emulate a grid type layouts using the Genesis Gpanels.
